Italian-American bass-baritone, Michael Pitocchi, who has been described in operatic cognoscenti circles as, “a brilliant young singer with a powerful and rich basso”, is currently the featured bass soloist with Maryland Lyric Opera Studio for the 19/20 season. This prestigious assignment will see Michael singing the leading bass-baritone roles in scenes from Beethoven's Fidelo, Gounod's Faust, and Verdi's Falstaff, as well as singing Simone in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, and Gomez in Ravel's L'heure espagnole. Michael will also then be covering the of title role of Figaro, in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, as well singing Antonio in the same production, which will be directed by the iconic superstar Italian bass-baritone, Ruggero Raimondi.
Also upcoming for Michael, will have him showcased as the bass soloist in Handel’s Messiah with the Long Island Choral Society, the bass soloist in Mozart's Mass in C minor and Bach's Magnificat in C major, both with the Fairfield County Chorale, and in Stony Brook Opera’s production of Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites. Most recently Michael has performed with the CVAI, the Canadian Vocal Arts Institute in Montreal, Quebec, as Barbemuche in Leoncavallo’s La Bohéme, under the tutelage of Joan Dornemann, as well, he was awarded Top Prize from the Gerda Lissner Foundation which then highlighted Michael in concert, in New York City, where he was among the best of the best selected young singers from the top music conservatories and academies in the world.
Michael, a New York Native, holds a degree from SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music, as well, he was a recent graduate of the Mannes School of Music from their Professional Studies Diploma Program. At Mannes, Michael performed many leading bass-baritone roles, including Nick Shadow in Stravinsky’s The Rake's Progress, Prince Gremin and Zaretsky in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Dr. Bartolo and Antonio in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, and Frank Maurrant in Weill’s Street Scene. Michael then furthered his development by being selected as a Young American Artist with the renowned Glimmerglass Festival, where he performed in the festival’s main stage productions of Kevin Put’s Silent Night, Leoš Janáček‘s The Cunning Little Vixen, and Gioachino Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia.
Michael has consistently been described as an international caliber voice, where it was written that his voice will, “fill today’s void of great dark voices.”
